Year of the Cat (Original)
6x6 in Acrylic Painting on Wood Panel
Lunar New Year this year, 2023, is unique in that according to the Vietnamese Zodiac, it is Year of the Cat instead of Year of the Rabbit. In honor of that difference, I wanted to paint a Lunar New Year painting for them as well.
I really enjoyed having the dark black cat silhouette juxtaposing the highly detailed crescent moon. The crescent moon, text, and the stars throughout the painting were made using metallic acrylic paints.
The text says ‘Happy New Year’ in Mandarin and directly underneath of that it says the same in Vietnamese (I made sure to check the spelling with a close Vietnamese friend of mine, although the stylizing of the cursive may make the accents on the letters look more like flourishes rather than accents).
This painting is signed, stamped, and dated on the back.
